 Certification – Most companies want a teacher with a university degree (although they don’t usually care about what the degree is in). A TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) or TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate is also required by most online companies. There is basically no difference between TEFL, TESL and TESOL certificates. There are many places where you can get one of these certificates online or distance learning ( self study) and the time taken to receive one can vary.   

. However some English teaching companies don’t care where your certificate comes from as long as you have one.

Experience  – Some companies want teachers with a one or two years of online teaching experience, other companies want teachers who have taught children or business English. It really depends on the company, the companies with higher requirements usually pay more.

Training – All good companies provide some sort of training. The training focuses on how to use the company’s online platform and their teaching methods. European companies often have their own teaching methods stressing student talking time and positive reinforcement. It is important to note that almost all online teaching companies have their own platform and their own material, so teachers do not have to spend much time preparing lessons.

 Resume and Interview – The last step before you start your application for an online teaching job is preparing a proper resume/CV. You should also prepare for the interview depending on what company you are applying to. All companies have their own unique selection procedure.

They provide great flexibility for teachers; you can work as much or as little as you choose. You simply open slots in your schedule, and the system matches you with students. No setup or self-marketing is needed – once hired, you can start earning immediately. What’s more, Twenix supplies all lesson materials, requiring minimal preparation and no homework grading. It’s ideal for both full-time and part-time work. Requirements: Native-level English (native & non-native) and registration as a freelancer in your country of residence. No experience, degree or TEFL certificate is required. TEFL certification and knowledge of different business sectors are a big plus. Pay rates vary from country to country based on the cost of living and local market rates.
For example: UK: 13-15€/hour and Argentina: 7-11€/hour. Seasonal bonuses can boost pay rates by as much as 20%. Your rate will be confirmed during the selection process. TEFL is strongly recommended for non – native teachers.

They employ natives and non-natives with TEFL and they are paid the same $15 base rate per hour.  They typically teach 30 minute classes Monday – Friday from 6-9pm (Beijing Time) and 3-9pm on weekends. 

 # 3. Lingo Turtle  http://lingo-turtle.com <—- (Click here to Apply) is based in Belgrade, Serbia. They teach 25 minute, 1-to-1 classes to young learners (4-16). Teachers don’t need a university degree and only need a C1 level. You set your schedule, but you have recurring classes with the same students and the same times. You must work a minimum of 15 hours per week. They pay $7 USD per hour for working weekdays and $9 USD per hour for working on weekends.

# 4. iBestTeacher <—- (Click here to Apply) is a Chinese recruitment company and they are looking for native and non-native speaking teachers to teach Chinese kids aged 4-16. A degree, TEFL certificate and experience are not required to work with them. Working hours are Monday to Friday 6pm – 9pm and Saturday to Sunday 9am – 10pm Beijing time and you must work at least 2 days per week for 2 hours. IBestTeacher pays $14 – $26 USD per hour depending on qualifications.

Teaching English online is a great way to earn money from home. If you are qualified you shouldn’t have any troubles getting a job and by qualified I mean that you have a university degree, a CELTA or TEFL certificate and some teaching experience in class or online.
